My Internship Interview, And My Exercise Adherence Project

This week was not so bad. A few things that happen was my research, my internship interview, and my exercise adherence project. The best thing about this week is that it was pay day and it is getting closer to fall break. In my research, I’m still confused about what or how I’m supposed to go about doing my duty. My duty is to make the 36-week fetal EKG/ultrasound appointments, but where do I start. When I saw Jaclyn I asked her for some advice. Unusually Kendal is working with me as well with the study so we both kind of talked to Jaclyn about our concern. Basically, what Jaclyn told me to do is to go through the emails to see what the previous research student did and then go through the calendar to see with mom was due for a 36-week fetal EKG/ultrasound. For the free time she told us to make sure we have done all our duty work and make sure all the data is entered in. After, Kendal and I talked to Jaclyn about what we should do when we have free time or we do not have a mom to come in, I started to feel better. I started to go through the emails and find the last mom that was contacted and find the email for the ECU Heart Institute. I copied and paste the emails to the moms and then sent them an email to get their appointment set up. Well I was finishing that up I did a whole session with a mom by myself. I did the pre and post blood pressure, the warm up and the yoga. I felt like being to handle a mom by myself is impressive in my eyes. Plato used an idea called the cave allegory to show how humans are ignorant. Before I explain a real life example, I will explain the Idea. In the cave there are prisoners. These prisoners cannot move because they are restrained by chains. The only thing that they can see is a wall that illuminated by a great light. This light is actually a fire behind them, which has a low sitting wall in between itself and the prisoners. As men walk below the wall holding up objects made out of every type of materials and in all sorts of shapes, the shadows of these shapes are placed on the wall in front of the prisoners. The low wall serves as a sort of stage or blind that keeps the men hidden and allows only the shadows to be illuminated onto the wall for the prisoners. The prisoners have known nothing other than the cave and its wall of shadows. When the prisoner looks around at the actual objects that create the shadows he is rather confused, and feels that the shadows are the truer of the objects because those are the things he has always known. The teacher then lead the prisoner up to the surface and out of the cave. When the teacher and the prisoner reach the world the prisoner is held fast until the pain of the light and confusion are overcome by his understanding of these visions. The prisoner would then first see the shadows, but then slowly he would see all things in their reality. As he starts to see the objects of physical reality he would soon see his reflection in water, the stars and moon in the sky and the sun hanging in their places. This will lead the man who was once a prisoner to contemplate many things, but he will eventually contemplate himself. No sooner would the prisoner start to think about himself then he would begin to think about his fellow prisoner still in the cave, and he would feel pity for them. For his fellow prisoners are still believing what they see, and what he once thought as well, as being reality. Meanwhile those in the cave have a reward system that will give a crown to the prisoner who recognizes and remembers the shadows the best. The man who was once a prisoner would no longer envy for this crown, since he now knows the simplicity and sad truth to the physical cave. The former prisoner would rather suffer than live a life under the false truths of the cave. The former prisoner ventures down to his fellow prisoners to help enlighten them as to the nature of things as they truly are. When the former prisoner would speak of these things to the prisoners they would think him mad and laugh outright at him. The prisoners would ridicule the former prisoner, and if he would be caught trying to release one of the prisoners, they would put him to death for trying to release one of them.

The modern age Essay Salo Baron: â€Å"The Modern Age†In the excerpts presented in Glatzer from Salo Baron’s essay, â€Å"The Modern Age,† Baron describes his vision for the future of American Jewry. He questions whether an outbreak of anti-semitism will ultimately bring an end to Jewish life in America or, whether the American political system is such that that would be difficult. He says that some argue that an economic depression would once again make American Jewry what they had been so many times before, a scapegoat. Yet, his answer to that claim is,†while it is possible that some cataclismic anti-Jewish upheaval might some day put an end to American Jewry, it does not appear likely,† (Baron, 735). He also dismantles the claim that such an â€Å"upheaval† would be the result of a low economic period, citing examples in American history where inspite of a recession, anti-Semitism did not become more prevalent.He goes on to warn America’s Jews that assimi lation will not free them of their Jewishness. Regardless of what they absorb fromt the surrounding culture or how devoted they are to their nation, ultimately others will still see them as Jews. He says that those who opt to ignore their past will not shed themselves of their Jewishness, but rather suffer all of its misfortunes, without benefiting from its â€Å"magnificent heritage,† (Baron, 736). For this too he cites examples from the Jewish past, the most obvious one, being that this essay was written in 1956, was German Jewry and the Holocaust. Ultimately, Baron questions what American Jewry will have become in one century, being that neither complete assimilation, nor an anti-Semitic upheaval, are likely scenarios. He does not give an answer. What he says instead is that the Jewish community in America must focus on quality, not quantity. They must stop concentrating on material things and instead work to develop their Jewish culture which was so quickly deteriorating. Interestingly, Maimonides had argued precisely the same thing eight centuries earlier. Baron’s final contention is that American Jewry needs leadership.
